Employee Engagement
Tips for Staying Motivated this Holiday Season
It’s holiday time…which means more office parties, more after-work get-togethers, more errands, more stress and more distractions.
So how do you stay focused during the holiday season? How do you keep your employees productive and your business moving forward?
Here are some tips:
Don’t use Your Lunch Hour for Shopping Sprees
Your lunch hour is designed to give you a momentary break from your day. Sit down and have something eat. Rest your mind and refuel your body. If you spend it racing through the aisles at the nearest big box retailer you’ll likely be exhausted and starving by mid-afternoon. This leads to a lack of production. Plus, if you rush while shopping, you’ll likely miss items on your list or purchase things you’ll only have to return later. Save yourself an extra trip to the store and save the shopping ‘til after work.
Take a Day Off
If you work long hours or are too bogged down after work to get your shopping done, take a day off to take care of your holiday errands. Hit the mall, decorate the house, meet a friend for hot cocoa. Cross off whatever tasks are on your To Do list so that the next day you can go back to work fresh and focused.
Stay Away From the Goodies Table
We know it’s hard to say no to sweets but do your best. The excess sugar will bring your energy way up, only to make it plummet again later. Then you’ll be sitting at your desk completely unwilling to do anything more than watch holiday movies and continue eating junk food. Avoid the sugar. Trust us. Your waistline and your boss will thank you later.
Stay Positive
Due to the chaos of the holiday season, it’s easy to get carried away and let stress take over. It’s important to take a step back and recognize what’s most important. While you’re knee deep in end of the year reports, holiday shopping and gift wrap, try not be a bah humbug. Take a deep breath and remember that this is the season for love and blessings.
Make lists and stay organized
Preparation is everything. Make a list and check it twice. Write down everything you need to do to prepare for the holidays as well as all of the people you need to shop for. This will help to ensure that everything gets done and all presents get bought in a timely and efficient manner.
