The debate continues over whether business travel, which was almost completed halted by the pandemic, will ever resume.

A May article from Forbes.com indicates that confidence in business travel is increasing in North America, as vaccination rates go up and positive case numbers go down.

Hilton CEO Christopher Nassetta says that Hilton is recording stronger corporate bookings in markets where the pandemic has declined. “We already see business travel back to effectively 75% of levels that we saw in 2019.” In that respect, the numbers are encouraging. A recent survey from insurance industry veteran, Chubb, revealed that 54% of North Americans indicated that they were OK with domestic flying and 52% of respondents indicated they were comfortable staying in a hotel — certainly a good start. On the other hand, only 39% of respondents were comfortable renting cars, and even fewer were comfortable taking taxis or ride-shares.  So, when and to what extent the business travel sector will recover remains to be seen.

While the debate continues, and the travel industry continues to take baby steps toward recovery, businesses can do their part by rewarding those road warriors who are in fact willing to venture out.
